Richard Bell British Basketball League Hoops Connect

Here at Hoops we’re committed to bringing you the most informative and motivational content possible – after all, we want you to love sport as much as we do! But we don’t know everything. So we’re going to be enlisting the help of regular columnists to help us fill in the gaps.

This week, Hoops ambassador and Manchester Giants baller Richard Bell tells us how his pre-season in America has benefited his game, and looks ahead to the new season of the British Basketball League.

Pre-season went well for me. I feel like I came in stronger, ready and more confident.

I feel like I definitely achieved what I wanted. I really wanted to work on my body this off season and get stronger as I didn’t really have a chance to do that during last season after my surgery.

I’ve worked really hard this off season on improving my jumping and movement with the help of coaches Liam Mitchell and Julian Stanley at Train 2 Perform, and during my time in the States.

And I’m happy with the results.

“Giants have a lot more tools than last year”

Training with the Giants has already begun over the last couple of weeks, although we don’t have our full squad together yet – we are still waiting on one or two guys to arrive to complete the squad.

We are going to Spain for a pre-season tournament this weekend, so that will be another chance to get experience playing together and also give us some time to bond as a team.

Then once thats happened we can really get to work on preparing for the season.

I definitely think this season will be an improvement on last season. I think we have a lot more tools than last year and a much better team.

I’m excited about what we have got and I’m looking forward to getting the ball rolling.

A successful season for us would be making the playoffs which is what we aim to do. But we will take it one game at a time.

“Big season for me personally”

I think this year will be a successful season for me.

I hope I can be more consistent this year. I’ve worked hard to have a good season and I feel I am in a better position to do so.

Last year I had some really good games and then some not so good games. So this year I want to make an impact every time I step on the court.

There’s no such thing as a perfect game and as a player you are always going to have bad games, but my attitude towards each game is going to be more consistent and I think I can make a bigger impact than last year.

I just want to go out and play hard every game make an impact and help our team win. That’s the most important thing, getting wins for the team, and that’s what I want most this season.

Of course teams will know me now and have an idea of how I like to play, but I have been working on my game this off-season and have some new tools in my offense that will help me succeed.

“More talent in BBL this year”

I think the BBL can always continue to improve.

The media coverage stepped up last season and I hope that will continue to do so.

But the BBL is much better this season in terms of talent I think, and every team has improved their roster and looks almost completely different than last season.

It will be a very exciting year of basketball in the BBL and one I hope will be recognised.
