As a young start-up company, we know how important it is that we offer you something different. And while we believe that our app is a unique resource for organising, discovering and participating in sport, we want to do something more. So, in a new series of blog posts, we’re asking the team to talk about Hoops Connect and their careers.
In this week’s episode of Hoops Hangouts, Jonas explains the work that’s gone into our latest update.
“This is a really exciting update”
This is a massive update, a really exciting update, solely because we’ve been working on this one for about a month now.
We’ve really focused a lot on the feedback we received from our users. We’ve worked hard on things like performance and architecture.
I think because we’re quite new in this field – this is our first app – as we’ve been progressing we’ve realised that a lot of the work we did right at the start of the journey would need changing as more people began using the app.
We’ve completely redone our menus to make it easier for people to navigate through the app, it makes more sense now, and we wanted to make sure the app was scalable so that we’re ready for the influx of people that will be coming soon.
“We need to be patient – this is a long process”
I don’t have technical training in coding and building apps, so I may have been naïve at the start as to how hard it would be to put together the ideas I had.
Being a designer, I had a vision for how I saw people using the app, and I always tried to make sure that everything was as simple as possible.
Hence, I thought that the development of the app would be simple as well. Turns out, I was wrong!
It’s very hard, so hard. We’ve had setbacks. We’ve had days when we’ve thought we were finished, people start using the app, one bug comes up, but then when you fix that one bug another five crop up.
Two steps forward one step back.
We’re always trying to improve, and it’s not a sprint, it’s a marathon. We need to be patient – it’s a long process.

“We’ve focused on making the app seamless”
All the annoying, teething issues should be fixed now.
The app that we’re releasing now will do all of the basic things that we want it to do.
You will be able to create an event, manage the people who join, make events recurring, collect payments, discover events, join them – all the things that we promised people.
Hopefully everything will be working without any crashes!
That’s what we’ve really focused on this time – making the process seamless.
“We’re onto something special”
The feedback that we have gotten is the reason we’ve worked so hard on this update.
The more feedback we get, the better we understand what you want from the app – and what’s missing.
I just really want to encourage people to continue giving feedback, both positive and negative.
Negative feedback obviously highlights our weaknesses, but the positive feedback shows us what you enjoy about the app and what our strengths are. The more different opinions we get, the more we can improve the app.
We appreciate all the patience that you guys have shown, because we know that we’ve promised things several times now.
But we’re new to this, the promises we give to other people have been things we’ve expected to achieve at that time. And believe me, we’re just as disappointed as you are when things have gone wrong.
But stick with us, because we know we’re onto something special, and we really think it will be worth your while in the long run.
