People all around the country are looking to take up new sports in a bid to lose weight and get fit for the new year. But how many of us are aware of the opportunities in our communities? That’s where Hoops Connect comes in. Here, we show you the depth of events you can find on our app in different areas of the country, and share with you some of our favourites.
Belle Vue Boxing Conditioning: Boxing fitness class based next to the National Speedway Stadium. £3.30 at 18:00 every Thursday.
Zouk with Hugo and Gaelle: A Friday night social dance party that combines fitness with fun, with resident DJs to boot!
Assheton Bowmen: Beginners archery class based in Moston, with access to recurve bows, longbows and compound bows.
Swing Train: A swing dance inspired workout that ties Charleston, electro swing and blues into a cardio workout in Islington. £6 per session, on Saturdays from 11:45 to 12:45.
Victoria Badminton Club: A free badminton club on Vauxhall Bridge Road that meets on Friday evenings and encourages players of all abilities to play for fun and fitness.
The Bike Train: A cycling group that travels from Nunhead Station to Kings Cross on Wednesday mornings, with cyclists encouraged to join and leave as their commute demands.
Sutton Coldfield Chess Club: Maybe not the workout you have planned for January, but it’s important to get your mental fitness on point too. Monday evenings from 19:00 to 22:00.
Birmingham Lasers Gymnastics: A city centre gymnastics club looking for new recruits to meet and practice on Sunday afternoons.
Cricket taster sessions: Cricket starter classes for adults, based in northern Birmingham.
Easi-RockIts VX: Our partners and one of our favourite young sports out there right now, VX started in Yorkshire, and one of its oldest clubs holds sessions on Monday evenings in Crayke.
Fitness Success Obstacle Gym: Obstacle course and training facility based on the outskirts of Leeds, runs two hour sessions every Saturday lunch time.
Think With Your Feet Football: Football sessions with a focus on mental health, aimed at creating a social, relaxed, non-judgemental environment. Free to attend on Friday evenings, Scarborough.
Floorball: Billed as a mix of hockey and tennis, this is an informal gathering aimed at having fun with a new sport. Wednesday nights at Westwood’s Health Club.
Nordic Walking: Weekly Wednesday morning Nordic Walking classes in Holyrood Park.
Cybi Striders: Cross country running club based in Anglesey for all ages and abilities. Free to join, the group meet on Monday and Wednesday evenings.
Carmarthen Table Tennis: A pan-disability, all ability table tennis club that meets in Carmarthen Leisure Centre on Thursday evenings.
American Tribal Dancing: “Improvisational belly dance fun” at the Swansea Grand Theatre every Thursday at 18:15.
